Brainscape allows us to visualize brain activation patterns from a single case, study, or across multiple studies. We can use simple colors and symbols to depict activation states or any image file, which allows for some very evocative and memorable summaries.
For instance, Karama et al (2002) reported centers of activation in the orbitofrontal cortex during sexual arousal at the following Talairach coordinates, -48,20,-8; 44,19,-18 for men; -36,17,-17; 50,18,-11 for women.
Brainscape can plot each point with a unique image file. For instance, we can depict the findings for men with an image file of a woman's face or naked breast or candlelight dinner, and the female data with a man's face, tattooed arm, minivan, baby carriage, or anything we want. We can combine and compare Karama et al (2002) to other fMRI studies such as Safron et al. (2007) or to Bocher et al. (2001), a PET study, as well as any EEG study that reports Talairach coordinates in their findings.
MNI coordinates will be available in a future upgrade.
